As BJP leader Suvendu Adhikari is set to take oath as the first Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) Chief Minister of West Bengal since independence, the BJP on Friday projected the moment as the beginning of a major political shift in the state, with Prime Minister Narendra Modi arriving in Kolkata to attend the swearing-in ceremony.
Calling the occasion a “historic dawn” for West Bengal, Adhikari welcomed PM Modi to the “City of Joy” and described the formation of the BJP government as the fulfilment of the aspirations of the party’s ideological founders. In a post on X, the BJP legislature party leader said the new government would mark the end of “decades of misrule” and usher in a “Double Engine” era focused on development, peace, and prosperity.

The swearing-in ceremony, being held amid extensive security arrangements in Kolkata, is being seen by the BJP as a landmark political breakthrough in a state long dominated by regional and Left parties. Senior BJP leaders and workers have arrived in the city to celebrate the party’s maiden return to power in Bengal.
Adhikari also invoked the BJP’s “Sonar Bangla” vision, a slogan prominently used during the Assembly election campaign, asserting that a new chapter had officially begun for the state under BJP rule.
